Explore Mexico & Central America
MEXICO: One-stop shop
Part of North America and not part of Central America, Mexico is a highly experienced production country both with its own indigenous filmmaking and as a location for foreign films.
Mexico has beautiful and versatile landscapes, film experience, high quality technicians and creative personnel, sound stage infrastructure, equipment rental companies, production companies, co-production treaties with other countries and above all, the warmth of its people.
The Mexican government has been actively working to create tax incentives necessary to attract large, medium and small productions to the country.
CENTRAL AMERCIA: New frontier for filmmakers
Blessed with stunning scenery and lush geography, Central America is poised to become a land of great locations. And yet despite its abundant potential, Central America remains an enigma. Sure, we’ve seen the reality TV show, Survivor, frolicking off the shores of Panama, Nicaragua and the ruins of Guatemala. But most of these countries have had little exposure in the film and video world. So lets start with the basics: Where and what is Central America?
Central America is a narrow isthmus of land. It extends from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Mexico, southeastward to the Isthmus of Panama, where it connects to the Colombian Pacific Lowlands in northwestern South America. Geopolitically, it usually comprises seven countries – Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.
Central America has an area of some 592,000 square kilometers. The Pacific Ocean lies to the southwest, the Caribbean Sea lies to the northeast and the Gulf of Mexico lies to the north. Most of Central America rests atop the Caribbean Plate.
